The capital of France, Paris is the most populous city , with an area of more than 100 square kilometres and an estimated population of over 2.1 million. Since period of 17th century, Paris is considered one of Europe's major centres of finance, commerce, fashion, Arts and sciences. Paris is the centre and seat of governance of the Paris Region with about 18% of the population of France. The Region had and enormous GDP of US$850 billion by 2016, which is around more than 30% of the GDP of France, and considered the 5th largest by GDP and considered second-most expensive city in the world, behind Singapore.

The city is a hub for rail, highway, and air-transport served by two international airports: Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly, the subway channel The Paris Métro, along with the railway Gare du Nord. Also known for the heritage, architecture and monuments has been the a city of attraction in Europe with over 10 million visitors in 2017-2018.The Musée d'Orsay and Musée de l'Orangerie are recognised for the vast art collecton of French Impressionist art, and the Pompidou Centre Musée National d'Art Moderne with largest collection of modern and contemporary art in Europe. Paris also has the UNESCO Heritage Site The historical district along the Seine in the city. The landmarks Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris and the Gothic royal chapel of Sainte-Chapelle are situated in the centre of the city, the Eiffel Tower and the Grand Palais and Petit Palais which are built for the Universal Exposition back in 1889 and 1900 respectively. The Arc de Triomphe on the Champs-Élysées, and the Basilica of Sacré-Coeur on the hill of Montmartre attracted more than 20 million visitors in 2017 based on the data of the Hotels in Paris, hence is considered the 3rd most visited travel destination in the world. Paris being the host for the Olympic Games back in 1900, 1924, will also host the 2024 Summer Olympics.
